Therapy for Entrepreneurs

As An Entrepreneur, Do You Struggle With Mental Health?

Are you a small business owner who feels stressed out and hopeless with no one to talk to? As the demands of running your business mount, do you often struggle with self-doubt, anxiety, and panic? Because so many people rely on your success, does the constant pressure of letting them down keep you up at night?

Anyone who met you would probably think that you are a pillar of the community who has it all figured out. But inwardly, you may suffer in silence with intrusive thoughts punctuated by fear and worry. Despite your reputation and connections within the community, unresolved trauma coupled with the stress of trying to scale your business could lead to isolation and loneliness.

Perhaps It’s Hard To Open Up To Others Or Ask For Help

If you’re a “one-man show”, you may be shouldering the burden of making your business successful on your own. Going it alone could result in internalizing your stress and worry rather than turning to anyone for help. You may feel like you have to remain strong for others and never show vulnerability because they are looking at you to be the leader.

However, you might be under financial pressure that you don’t dare share with anyone else. You might check your bank account several times throughout the day or lose sleep thinking about the potential of failure. Without anyone to confide in, the anxiety you experience each day wearing so many hats may become overwhelming.

Fortunately, group therapy for entrepreneurs can help you establish balance in your life. By offering a peer group of like-minded business leaders facilitated by a therapist and fellow entrepreneur, group therapy can help you not only address your mental health but also propel your business to the next level.

Many Entrepreneurs Struggle With Mental Health

Although it is alarming that an estimated 72 percent of entrepreneurs report struggling with mental health concerns and male entrepreneurs are four times more likely to experience death by suicide, it is hardly surprising. [1] [2] [3] In his book, Profit First, Mike Michalowicz states, “Roughly 50 percent of businesses fail within the first five years…the majority of businesses that survive are racking up debt and their leaders are perpetually stressed. Most entrepreneurs are living a financial nightmare.” [4]

The reality is that as entrepreneurs, we are vulnerable to mental health issues, not only because of the financial highwire act we are performing at all times but due to the isolation we experience in our leadership roles. As the sole person in charge, there is no one we feel comfortable confiding in. Our challenges compound when we neglect self-care and fail to prioritize our mental health.

The Scarcity Mindset Can Become A Trap That’s Hard To Escape

As entrepreneurs, we often decide to go into business for ourselves because it’s hard to imagine working for anyone else. Our maverick mentality makes the idea of being our own boss appealing. However, what we don’t realize is that if we undergo this endeavor with a mentality of scarcity and fear, we are doomed to fail.

If we surround ourselves with people who doubt our ability to succeed or achieve prosperity, we may unwittingly close ourselves off from potential opportunities. By being risk-averse or lacking confidence in ourselves, we limit our professional growth.

Therapy for entrepreneurs within a group setting offers a safe and supportive space to prioritize your mental health while surrounding yourself with like-minded colleagues who embrace growth and abundance. Coming together with people who share your struggles, hopes, and dreams can be transformative.

Therapy For Entrepreneurs Provides Self-Care And Community

As an entrepreneur, it can be overwhelming to consistently meet the complex demands of your business while also attending to your mental and emotional needs. Our faith-based group therapy sessions are designed to help purpose-driven entrepreneurs—such as business owners, executives, lawyers, therapists, and church leaders—prioritize self-care, mental health, and wellness.

The group therapy we offer is geared toward professionals who want to live purposefully and fulfill their life mission while growing and scaling their businesses to seven figures and beyond. By providing you with a peer group that understands the psychological and emotional impacts of being an entrepreneur, our therapy sessions are a safe place to be vulnerable.

What Group Therapy For Entrepreneurs Offers

Your mental health is vital to achieving optimal impact, influence, income, and profitability in business. Our well-balanced, integrative approach incorporates faith-based doctrine with best practices in psychology, business growth, and personal development. Attending these sessions allows you to focus on yourself as a whole person, complete and undivided.

Some of the topics we cover in counseling for entrepreneurs will include:

  • Helping you identify your business as a separate entity that exists outside of yourself;

  • Applying the principles of Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT) to entrepreneurship by discovering the underlying attachment emotions driving how you relate to yourself, other people, your business, and money;

  • Growing your money mindset

  • Replacing a fear and scarcity worldview with one of growth and abundance;

  • Identifying the five most influential relationships in your life and how they impact you.

About Jamal

Jamal is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), small business owner, and Growth Coach for therapists in private practice. After participating in faith-based support groups, he discovered they weren’t as empathetic toward the plight of entrepreneurs as he had hoped. Only after participating in Masterminds with other entrepreneurs and a Bible study for entrepreneurs did Jamal receive the support he had been looking for.

Jamal's mission is to help other entrepreneurs achieve optimal impact, profitability, and work-life balance for the glory of God and the benefit of others. As a multi-passionate, purpose-driven entrepreneur with expertise as a therapist, speaker, and coach, Jamal will facilitate therapy sessions to benefit anyone in business for themselves. His hope is for you to become part of a professional, empathetic, and non-judgmental community where you can let your guard down without guilt, shame, or regrets.

We offer our group sessions in the spring and fall and they run for 12 consecutive weeks. Each session will be facilitated by Jamal Jones and include 8-12 participants. Group therapy for entrepreneurs is offered in-person and online.

You have probably taken many risks as an entrepreneur—financial and otherwise—to build up your business. Imagine an environment where you can talk openly and honestly about your relationship with money, financial challenges, struggles, and opportunities with people who get it. You don’t have to operate in a silo anymore. With group therapy for entrepreneurs, you can leverage the power of being in an authentic community with other risk-takers.

But You Might Have More Questions About Group Therapy For Entrepreneurs…

I fear that working with an entrepreneur therapist won’t benefit me financially.

Although many entrepreneurs are conditioned to operate from a place of fear and scarcity, we don’t subscribe to that mindset. By considering counseling for entrepreneurs, we invite you to discover what it means to operate from a place of faith, realistic hope, growth, and abundance. Improving your money mindset in the community with others can positively influence your business trajectory.

As a busy professional, I don’t have time for counseling.

Whatever our profession, whether we are business owners, executives, lawyers, clergymen, or therapists, we are often conditioned to neglect our own needs and forego therapy and other self-care in pursuit of monetary success. However, prioritizing our mental health is foundational to success, making therapy for entrepreneurs a worthwhile use of your time. Because consistency is key to personal growth and development, attending regular sessions where you engage with others, take emotional risks, and are willing to be vulnerable will ensure therapy is beneficial.

How will group therapy for entrepreneurs be a good return on my investment?

It has been said, "Action takers are money makers." Our group therapy sessions are designed for entrepreneurs motivated to grow and scale their businesses to seven figures. You will be required to get out of your comfort zone as a leader, courageously make decisions, and take consistent action in alignment with your company's values and strategic direction. The more you invest your time, attention, energy, and resources into this program, the more you will benefit.
